The Long Course Duathlon National Championship is a 10K Run/69K Bike/10K Run with the Runs on a slightly undulating out-and-back course and the Bike on a moderately undulating 3 loop course.
The On-Road Sprint includes the traditional 5K Run/24K Bike/5K Run with the Runs on a slightly undulating out-and-back course and the Bike on a moderately undulating loop course.
The Off-Road features a 5K Trail Run/20K Mountain Bike/5K Trail Run on the Nu-Draper Trails at Lake Stanley Draper. The run course will be slightly technical. The same course will be run twice. The bike course has been designed for novices, but will challenge the experienced rider that wants to push the envelope.
All these races are a part of the TRI-OKC series of multisport events and continue to grow in popularity.
Sure you may be the best duathlete in your local club and take home the hardware at races in your area, but how do you stack up against other top duathletes across this great nation of ours. It is time to stop talking smack and show your competition what you are made of. The Draper On-Road Duathlon has been designated as the 2010 Long Course Duathlon National Championship. We are honored and excited to host this event and know we are going to field a talented group of athletes. Are YOU the best in the Nation?
Each of the first and second 5K Runs (approximate) is a one-loop run primarily on the Nu-Draper yellow trail (single-track) with slight modifications.
The bike course is approximately 20K and follows the Nu-Draper green trail (single-track) and consists of three loops with slight modifications.
The first 5K Run, which is an out-and-back, heads south out of the parking lot of the Draper Lake Marina on W. Stanley Draper Drive to a turning point, the Bike course then heads north from the marina parking lot on W. Stanley Draper Drive for one clockwise 24K lap around Lake Draper and the second 5K Run, which is also an out-and-back, heads south and is the same as the first Run.
The Long Course is the same as the On-Road Race except the two Runs are 10K and consist of two 5K loops each time and the Bike is 69K and circles Lake Stanley Draper clockwise three times.
All courses are USATriathlon Sanctioned.
All aid stations on the bike and run course will provide H2O and HEED. Hammer Nutrition is a long time sponsor of this race and we appreciate their support.
DIRECTIONS TO EVENT
From I-35 (coming from west) Take I-240 East to Douglas. Go north on Douglas, take immediate right (east) onto 74th. Turn right (south) on Post Road. The Nu-Draper parking lot (transition area) is on the east side of Post Road after 3/4 mile.(for a map go to www.okearthbike.com/Trail_Pages/nudraper/nudraper_new_map.gif)
From I-40 (coming from east) Take I-240 West to Douglas. Go north on Douglas, take immediate right (east) onto 74th. Turn right (south) on Post Road. Traffic on Post Road between the E.I-240 Service Road and SE 89th Street is one-way only (southbound) so you must enter from the north. (See Parking Instructions below.)
From I-35 (coming from west): Take I-240 East approximately 4 miles. Turn south (right) on Sooner Rd./OK-77H south (Exit 8). Go south on Sooner Road approximately 2 miles. Turn east (left) on S.E. 104th Street. Go east on S.E. 104th approximately 2.5 miles. You will run directly into the transition area. From I-40 (coming from east): Take I-240 West (via Exit 165) approximately 5 miles. Take Douglas Blvd. (Exit 11). Turn right onto S. Douglas Blvd. Turn left onto SE 74th Street. Go about one mile. Turn left onto S. Midwest Blvd. Go about one mile. Stay straight to go onto W Stanley Draper Dr. Go about one mile. Turn left when you see the transition area. Parking will be allowed only in the northbound lane of Post Road between the E.I-240 Service Road and SE 89th Street. Traffic will be one-way south so you must enter Post Road north of the E.I-240 Service Road and park in the northbound lane. Please do not park on the shoulder, private property or block the private drive on Post Road.
Plenty of parking is available in the Draper Lake Marina parking lot east of the Transition area.
All events are USAT Sanctioned Events. They will follow all USAT rules and guidelines and be officiated. All participants MUST bring a valid photo ID along with a current USAT License. If you do not have a USAT license you will need to purchase a one-day license on-line here when you register. You must bring either your USAT license or your one-day license, the latter of which will be noted on your e-mail confirmation, in order to get your packet. Each participant will only be allowed to pick up his/her own packet. This will be strictly enforced. You will not be able to purchase an annual license at packet pickup, you must get this from the USAT website prior to the event. For a complete list of Rules and Guidelines they may be obtained at www.usatriathlon.org.
These will be Championchip Timed Events. You will be given your chip prior to the race. It will be removed after you cross the finish line. If you drop out of the race PLEASE be sure to return the chip to a “Chip” volunteer at the finish line. If not returned you will incur a $35 replacement fee. These events will be electronically timed by DG PRODUCTIONS.
Standard USAT Age Group awards, plus Athena and Clydesdale, will be given in each race. There will also be Age Group awards for Youth in each race.
“DU DRAPER TWICE” AWARDS
Distinctive Awards will be given to all athletes that “Du Draper Twice” and special awards will be given to the athletes with the lowest overall time for both races. So, “Du Draper Twice”!
Each entrant receives a high-quality technical shirt in his/her goodie bag. Athletes competing in both races will only get one goodie bag. SHIRTS ARE LIMITED SO REGISTER EARLY.
REGISTRATION IS ON-LINE ONLY. THERE WILL BE NO RACE DAY REGISTRATIONS.
USAT waivers will be signed on-line and one-day USAT licenses are only available on-line.
Registration is available for those wishing to race as an Athena ( Female – 150+ lbs.) or a Clydesdale (Male – 200+ lbs.),
Packet pickup dates and times will be posted as we get closer to race day. There will be at least one pickup earlier race week. You will also be able to pick up your packets on race morning.
Those competing in the LONG COURSE and the ON-ROAD Duathlon can pick up their packets on race morning, Saturday, July 10, 2010 from 5:30-7:00 a.m. at the On-Road race site.
Those competing in the OFF-ROAD Duathlon can pick up their packets on race morning, Sunday, July 11, 2010 from 5:30-7:00 a.m. at the Off-Road race site.
Race morning will be very busy, so please make every effort to pick up your packet prior to race day.
The transition area is for race entrants only! Bikes, helmets, and gear will be checked prior to entry into transition area. If you ride your bike to the transition area your helmet must be on and fastened. You must have your race number prior to racking your bike. All athletes will be body-marked. You cannot take your bike out of transition once it is racked. No one will be allowed in transition area before or after the race until the Race Director announces that the transition area is open. It is our firm belief that every athlete has the same right to unobstructed access to the transition area throughout his/her race. THE TRANSITION AREA OPENS AT 5:30 A.M. BOTH DAYS AND WILL CLOSE AT 7:15 A.M. FOR A PRE-RACE MEETING.
All events will be officiated by Certified USATriathlon Officials. Every athlete is responsible to know and abide by USATriathlon’s Competitive Rules.
Even though we realize that circumstances beyond a registered athlete’s control might cause him/her to miss the race, registration fees are non-refundable.
There will be NO TRANSFERS and NO REFUNDS.
There will be NO RACE DAY REGISTRATIONS. NO TRANSFERS & NO REFUNDS. YOU, AND ONLY YOU, MAY PICK UP YOUR RACE PACKET. Have your photo ID plus your USAT membership card (unless you’re purchasing a one-day pass.
