SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
2012 Club National Champions,
Summer is over and fall is here. It is marathon season so good luck to all our members running! I have two book keeping items I need to get out there.
First, nominations are open for two officers, secretary, and vice president. If you are interested or know someone who is please email me. We will be voting in November, so stay tuned.
Second, I wanted to touch base with all our members about the scholarship program. TRI-OKC wants to try and help all our members get to races all across the world. We have created a scholarship program that can be used to offset travel costs, race entries, and hotel expenses. To apply you need to email me at kkillgore1@yahoo.com and tell me what race, when and why. Your name will then be put in a lottery drawing with the other applicants. We will announce at the Holiday Party all the winners. This year you may apply for all of the scholarships if you feel you can qualify for all of them. If you have any questions please email me and I will try to help.
Thanks,
Kristin Killgore

REDMAN Week is Here!
I want to send out good vibes this special week to the racers, organizers, sponsors, and supporters all involved in REDMAN. REDMAN week is the week hundreds of people across the nation have been preparing for all year. People have been waking up at the crack of dawn, fitting in quick work outs at lunch, and eating dinner at 9:00pm after one final workout of the day. People have been swimming, biking, and running without fail and with determination for one goal, finishing one race on this coming Saturday.
These racers, though, have also had supporters who have sacrificed with them. These racers also have a REDMAN committee who has been striving just as hard to make sure everything within their control goes seamless. This one race pools together a community of people with one love, triathlon. As the weekend approaches remember that everyone you see has been working for everyone else you see to put together one event that will impact racers in ways we may not know.
When I look around on race weekend I see one community that every year impresses me. I see the group of people who in 2006 encouraged me to just try the Half. I remember training all summer with my new friends who were training for the full and thinking “they are crazy” and yet something in them inspired me to complete in 2007 the Full distance myself. For me 2008 -2010 were a chance for me to help give back and volunteer. Volunteering teaches you humility as you strive to put these racers ahead of every other need and work to provide them the experience that you yourself would like. It is excruciating how challenging it is to watch and not race. REDMAN week last year has been to date the best one yet. I remember walking out to the site on the Friday to volunteer, 9 months pregnant, and wishing I could compete. I had all intentions to come out there again on Saturday to watch. Saturday came and as I sat in the hospital across the street holding my son on my husband’s birthday I couldn’t help but wonder what was going on at REDMAN.
This one race inspires me every year and I can not tell you how privaleged I feel to be apart of REDMAN even in just the smallest role. This year I am back to participating and feel like I am starting over at day 1 with the sprint. I am extremely nervous, but the best part of REDMAN, will keep me grounded. The people of REDMAN will be cheering me on with as much fever as they cheered on the people completing the half and the full the day before. My friends who have worked all summer behind the scenes will not give up on any racers out there.
REDMAN week is here. Go out and thank the racers, the committe members, the city, and the spectators who are all apart of the triathlon community. Most importantly on race day go out and have fun! Be safe and just enjoy what a great race your have been blessed to compete in.
