Cheap Pool for Training?

Postby zachavm » Mon Apr 11, 2011 6:52 pm

I'm trying to find a good/cheap pool to train in. I talked to OC in Edmond and it's $170 for a year which isn't bad at all. However, I wondering if anyone else has a suggestion. I'd prefer it be on the north side as I live in Edmond. Thanks for the help!

Single membership at the Edmond Y is $35/month and you have access to everything at the facility and the pool at UCO.
I've failed at many things, but never in my desire to try again.

So I just found out that because my wife is a student at UCO I can get a membership to their wellness center (that includes the pool) for only $12 bucks a month!!! That kicks ass! We have a winner!

I train there. What time do you plan on swimming?

My daughter goes to UCO. I wonder if parents of students can join?

Every now and then Aspen (becoming Gold's Gym now) runs sales for $9.00 per month. I work out at the Edmond Aspen/Gold's.

Well, turns out the UCO pool isn't going to work out. I'm doing my training in the evenings and they canceled their evening lap swims due to lack of interest. That means that their only open lap swim times during the week are in the mornings.

That means it's back to OCCC. I'm not dissapointed though because that pool is absolutly insane!!! Much better than the UCO pool. I'll be training in the Evenings (probably right after work at 5pm) on thursdays and be doing my short swim on Saturdays. (I'm following the beginner triathlete sprint plan) Anyone out there doing their swims on thursday evenings?

I'm at Gold's (used to be Aspen). When I joined up it was $299 sign up and 9.99 a month after that. It works out to about $34 a month this first year but after that it will be 10 bucks a month so that isn't bad.

The pool in Edmond sucks but with the new Quail Springs one opening soon I'm hoping for better. I was told that it is 5 lanes and will have actual lane ropes to make it not like swimming in the ocean. I guess that is one good thing about Edmond, it gets you used to open water swimming...

It's actually really good. $45 dollars get's you 20 visits. For me, my training schedule has me going twice a week. That means it works out to about $20 a month. The pool at OC in edmond is a little cheaper (it's $170 for a year of pool ), but that's only if you train year around consistently which I doubt I will do. Plus, OCCC is easily the best pool in the state. Blows any pool in Edmond out of the water.
