Aug 23rd Next S&D - TEAM event

Postby Jane H » Mon Aug 08, 2011 5:00 pm

Let's do it again - TEAM event for our next splash and dash to be held at Spring Creek Park on Tuesday Aug 23rd - come around 6, we will try to start at 6:30.

TEAM composition - Must be a coed team, at least one woman must be on each team- more if you like. Each team will be 4 individuals who will all do the swim and the run. First team with all their mates in - WINS!!

You are welcome to participate as a single - but I will be creating teams from those who don't plan ahead.

Please send me your TEAM NAME - and the members on your team. This was very competitive last year, let's do it again!
Will Schlegel superstars reign supreme or will some upstart team take the crown?

Send your team info to me: jane@cpaokc.net

Thanks for making the splash and dash series a great success!!!

Received inquiries from member about having all female teams.

What is the preference for team composition: All male, All female, Coed ?
Since we have more males in attendance generally, I thought making all teams coed with at least one woman would work, however, if you want to have all female teams or male teams - we will handicap the guys like they do Hi-Vee tri.

What should be the time gap?

What about having three divisions: all-male, all-female, and coed?

Are we talking genetic female, or can one guy just look like a girl?

Okay, let's change the teams to whatever you want. All female, All male and Coed. Your choice.

Start sending me your team names and teammates. We have some newer members who would like to participate - they should post their names and contacts here so they can form teams.

Be sure to come out to the Arcadia Lake Tri this Sunday to participate, volunteer or just cheer. I will have a team signup sheet available at the race (food area) for the Team Splash and Dash. Hope to see you all Sunday.

Thanks,

We might....are you a fast runner? We only take the fastest on our team
Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh heh - and, uh, after that I just sorta space out for about an hour. Peter Gibbons

I'm probably going to come, but I will not be on a team- and you can't make me, Jane! ;)
I'm not able to run because of my IT issues, so I will be walking the run. I refuse to make others wait on me to drag my ass back to the finish.
There is something uncanny in the noiseless rush of the cyclist, as he comes in to view, passes by and disappears.

USA Pro Cycling Challenge

Postby Bart » Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:27 pm

After the splash catch the replay of stage 1 of this race on Verses. On all week on Verses or NBC this weekend.

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge inaugural year opened to one of the largest crowds and some of the fastest time trials in American professional stage racing. Time trial specialist Patrick Gretsch received the better of a world-class pro cycling field to win the prologue stage in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The young German rider from the HTC-Highroad squad put up a time of 8:27 on a 5.2 mile course that went from the Garden of the Gods to downtown Colorado Springs.

“Winning the Prologue of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge today is a really nice feeling,” said Gretsch. “I put a lot of my focus on the Prologue. I had really good preparation and I felt really good in training this morning. It felt great out there and I’m super happy to get the win. I think all the other teams have to watch out for us.”

Just two seconds behind Gretsch was veteran American rider Christian Vande Velde (Team Garmin-Cervelo). BMC time trialist Brent Bookwalter took the final step on the podium having crossed the finish line four seconds out of first place.

In what many of the cyclists described as a Tour de France crowd, with estimates ranging from 75,000 to 100,000 people, Gretsch averaged an eye-catching 58.9 kilometers (35 mph) per hour, making it one of the fastest time trials on American soil, bested only by Lance Armstrong’s 59.2 km in the 1996 Tour DuPont.

“The crowd was awesome. A lot of times American crowds are great on weekends but you never know what to expect during the week,” said Vandevelde. “I didn’t expect to be on the podium today but I’m certainly happy to be here.”

Among the top ten favorites were Cadel Evans, Jens Voigt, Tejay Van Garderen and Levi Leipheimer.
