friendly competition

There is a free iphone/droid app (also works with any GPS) called Strava that is becoming more popular around here.

Basically, it has some rides around the city mapped out, including a lap around hefner, a lap around overholser, a lap around draper, etc.

You ride with your gps or phone in your pocket with that app going and as soon as you roll past the starting line the timer starts. When you roll past the finish line the timer stops.

You can upload your ride and it will show you a leaderboard with other riders so you can see where you stack up. You can also create your own routes and it will notify you every time you set a new PR.

It's a pretty cool idea, but it will get even better if more people start using it and there is some friendly competition/banter going back and forth.

You can also use it for running, but right now it looks like there are only a few people with mapped out run courses. Check it out in the app store or at strava.com

Downloaded the app, and it is pretty cool.

Not sure about the competition since you set your time around Hefner on rollerblades, right Rob? I can only imagine how much faster you'd be on a bike.

Anyway, for what it's worth I did take a whole 11 seconds off your time this afternoon! I expect that won't hold up for very long . . .

Thanks for the link to the app. Hope to see you out there sometime.

Your time is pretty dang good Mark! There are a lot of good cyclists on that list that you dominated. Yesterday was a breezy day too! I'll definitely have to get on my bike if I want to have a chance at matching your time. I don't have 11 seconds in me on skates, that is for sure.

Is anyone going to set up a club for TriOKC on there?

Done... Just look for TriOKC under the clubs section. Should be easier to check on everyone's times.

Now I just need to grow a pair and get out in this wind.

This wind is brutal! Looks like I will be doing some indoor training this week with the weather. I hope the weather clears by Sunday for the group ride.
